In today's world, careers and job roles are changing all the time. The best way to keep pace is by always learning new skills. But there are a lot of skills, at least 50,000 of them, so where do you start?
LinkedIn data scientists whittled this list down to find the skills companies’ need most in 2019.
At the top are soft skills that apply to any job well and hard skills that apply to specific industries. Here's a look at a few of those skills and how some of our latest courses can help.

  1. The number one soft skills companies need is creativity. The ability to dream up new ideas and new solutions to problems. Gone are the days of relying on a handful of people to dream up new creative ideas. Today, whole teams need to sharpen their creative ability and more importantly learn how to turn creative ideas in the innovative output.
  2. Next up, Persuasion. Because having great ideas also means persuading others to buy into them which leads into another soft skill collaboration.
  3. The ability to be an effective team member with colleagues who might be across the hall or across the world. I'd like to propose that collaboration doesn't need to look one way and in fact is more of a spectrum. Collaboration can be had without people spending too much time together. But there are some practical tools that help us spend less time in meetings and in talking and more time in moving the ball towards achieving the collective goal.

The hard skills that LinkedIn identified reflect our increasingly digital world. Most of the top hard skills directly relate to computing and digital experiences from websites to online video to podcasts.

  1. High on the list of in-demand hard skills is artificial intelligence. From machine learning to neural networks, the age of AI is here. Imagine if you could create a machine that can translate all the world's languages or find any photograph on the Internet just by asking. Think about a machine that can identify faces, look through patient x-rays or even find new pharmaceuticals. To do that, you can create a network that works like a human brain. In a sense, you want to create a machine that's more like us as a way to better understand us.
  2. User experience design is another in-demand hard skill and for good reason. It's the key to making apps websites and digital devices work for the people who use them.
  3. Another big part of online experiences involves videos. It represents 70% of all consumer internet traffic and that has helped lead to a demand for video production skills. It's about connecting with their audience on an ongoing basis so that they're really telling their story about what their brand stands for.

We started our year by publishing hundreds of new courses aimed at these and other in-demand skills across seven languages worldwide. This year, find the skills you need most and start your learning journey today to support yourself, your career, your team and your business because whatever you're in it for, we are in it together.
